Eric was born in Perth, Western Australia in 1907, eldest of three children of Ernest Lancaster Stump Snr (b1880 in London, England) and Nellie Maud Parkinson (b1875 in London, England). Eric Snr was a Hoisery Assistant in 1902 in London when he and Nellie married. In 1906 the couple immigrated, arriving in Albany, Western Australia on board the Persic, and settling in Perth, where Eric Snr was a Grocer. In 1912 the family moved to Kalgoorlie - Eric Snr was a Greengrocer - and then to Bunbury in 1917 - Eric Snr was a Mercer and Outfitter. In the mid 1920s Eric Snr and Nellie settled at Glen Forrest in Mundaring, where Eric Snr was a Storekeeper until his death in a car accident in 1930.
Eric was a Shop Assistant, working for his father in Glen Forrest. In 1933 in Guildford he married Freda Laura Ingram (b1907 in Perth, Western Australia). The couple settled in Parkerville, Mundaring where Eric was a Store Manager in partnership with his brother Cedric. Following his Discharge from the Army, Eric and Nellie lived in Glen Forrest, where Eric was a Store Manager, before settling in Perth in the 1950s, where they raised their family and Eric was a Merchant, travelling regularly between Fremantle and Singapore.
