5th Battery 2nd Brigade Australian Field Artillery
Enlisted 20/09/1914 as Andrew Bennett.
He was 29 and the son of Frank and Louisa Bennett, of 24 Ladybrook Lane, Mansfield, Notts, England. His brother, Frank died of wounds on 15/03/1916 whilst serving with the Lincolnshire Regiment. His father also lived at 28 Rosemary Street Mansfield.
Witness accounts of Archibald's death and burial: 31st July 1917 near Zillebeke B. Killed intantaneously by a shell. I helped to bury him in the cemetery at Renninghurst: informant was Gunner P O'Relley 2536: Sgt Major Street will tell you he is buried in Renninghurst Cemetery. I saw his cross, he had recently been batman to Major Riggall: informant was McGee H 1075
He is remembered in St John the Evangelist Church, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, NG18 1QH. Tablet and altar. Dedication on the tablet: 'This tablet and Holy Table were given to the Glory of God and to honour the memory of the men of St John's Church and St Andrew's Mission who gave their lives for their country in the Great War 1914-1918.'
