Staff Sergeant Robert Thomas Beakley OAM (Service Nos:T22739/TX11589) initially served in the Militia as a Private with 12th Field Ambulance before enlisting in the ACMF on 21 July 1941. Corporal Beakley was attached to 7th Australian Field Hygiene when he enlisted in the AIF on 4 November 1942, and served in New Guinea and the Solomons (Milne Bay, Lae, Rabaul, Torokina) with 12th Field Ambulance (8 May 1944 - 16 January 1946). Staff Sergeant Beakley was attached to 12th Field Ambulance at Discharge on 11 January 1946.

Born in Sydney, New South Wales in 1919, Bob was eldest of two sons of Thomas (Tom) Ernest Beakley (b1890 in Hobart, Tasmania) and Jessie Irene Wood (b1895 in Brighton, Tasmania). Tom worked as a Bootmaker in Melbourne, and was in Hobart in 1917 when he and Jessie married. The couple moved to Sydney, where Tom was a Bootmaker, before returning to Tasmania with their two sons in the mid 1920s. Tom and Jessie settled in Glenorchy, where they raised their family and Tom was a Bootmaker.

Bob was working in Glenorchy as a Cabinetmaker when he enlisted in the Militia in 1939, and in 1946 in Bellerive, Tasmania married Beatrice (Peggy) May Scott (b1923 in Hobart, Tasmania). Bob was a well known football player at school, and following his Discharge from the Army played in club competitions, and was widely recognised for his voluntary contributions to football and cricket. He was a Life Member of the Glenorchy Footbal Club and a member of the Club's Hall of Fame. In the 1999 Queen's Birthday Honours List he was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for 'services to youth and sport in Tasmania. Particularly through Australian Rules Footbal and cricket, and to the Anglican Church' (Commonwealth of Australia Gazette; 1999). Bob and Peggy settled in Glenorchy, where they raised their family and Bob was a Storekeeper. Bob  died in 2008 and Peggy in 2009.
