Warrant Officer II Kenneth George Finlayson (Service No:TX3204) initially enlisted in the ACMF (Private, Corporal; Service No:234779) and served with12/50th Battalion from 31 January 1939 to 10 June 1940. On 11 June he enlisted in the AIF and served with No 1 Coy AASC (Staff Sergeant) and 1 Docks Detail (WOII). Warrant Officer Finlayson was attached to HQ 1 Docks Control Detachment when he was Discharged on 25 March 1943.

Born in 1907 in Devonport Tasmmania, Ken was the fourth of six children of David Clark Finlayson (b1868 in Angus, Scotland) and Mary Beattie (b1868 in Angus, Scotland). Both David and Mary immigrated with their parents and siblings in 1884, arriving in Hobart, Tasmania on board the Abington. David (an Engineer) and Mary married in 1900 in Devonport, Tasmania where they settled and raised their family. David was a member of the family company Finlayson Bros & Co, established in Devonport in 1887 and producing farming machinery, ship building and steam driven vehicles and equipment, and running sawmills.

Ken worked as a Mechanic/General Engineer in Devonport, and in 1934 married Nancy Jean Frost (b1909 in Ulverstone, Tasmania). Ken and Jean settled in Devonport where they raised their family and Ken worked as a Mechanic/General Engineer. Ken died in 1987 and Jean in 1998.
