Corporal Joan Miller (Service No:W45697) served in the AWAS (graded Wireless Telegraph Operator) from 25 June 1942, and was attached to HQ Signals AMF at Discharge on 3 January 1946. Older siblings - Phyllis and Jack - also served in WWII.
Joan was born in Perth, Western Australian in 1920, third of four children of John Joseph Miller (b1888 in Kooringa, South Australia) and Louisa Mary Cahill (b1886 in Perth, Western Australia). Both John and Louisa had been living in Kalgoorlie when they married in 1915, and lived there (John was a Miner) until 1920. John and Louisa then settled in Perth, where they raised their family and John was a Bread Carter.
Joan was a Clerk in Perth in Perth in 1942 when she enlisted in the Army. Following her Discharge in 1945, Joan settled in Perth where she was a Clerk/Public Servant until retirement in the 1980s. Joan died in 2011.
