Private John Herbert Richards (Service No:W85699) served in the ACMF with A Coy 14 Karri Battalion VDC from 29 April 1942 to 18 September 1944. Younger brothers Basil and Gordon also served in WWII.

Jack was born in Bunbury, Western Australia in 1900, eldest of thirteen children of John Richardson (b1875 in Montgomeryshire, Wales) and Eliza Ann Sutton (b1878 in Bunbury, Western Australia). John immigrated with his parents and siblings in 1878, arriving in Townsville QLD on board the Sir William Wallace. John moved to Perth where, by 1893 he was a Railway Worker (Cleaner and Fireman), and by 1897 was in Bunbury working for the Railways as a Fireman and Night Shedman. John was a Locomotive Driver in 1899 when he and Eliza married in Bunbury, and the couple lived in the region (Busselton, Karridale, Big Brook, Pemberton) - where they raised their family and John was a Locomotive Driver.

Jack worked in Pemberton as a Fitter (Engineer), and in Fremantle in 1926 married Violet May Michell (b1904 in Fremantle, Western Australia). Jack and Violet settled in Pemberton, where they raised their family and Jack was a Fitter (Engineer) and Workshop Foreman in Deanmill via Pemberton. Violet died in 1951 and Jack in 1958.
