Private Stanley Benjamin Reddin (Service No:W31916) first served with the ACMF (5th Garrison Battalion (Militia) Coy)from 5 August 1941 to 22 December 1941. He re-enlisted on 1 April 1942 (Private/Gunner; Service No:W67009) with 1st (WA) Battalion VDC. On 9 December 1944 Gunner Reddin was slightly injured whilst on duty at Fortress Swanbourne (Swanbourne Battery) when he stepped off the platform of No 1 Gun in the dark, missing the steps and falling heavily onto the concrete in the gun pit (NAA). Private Reddin was the eldest of four brothers who served in WWII - Raymond (RAN), and Gerald and Keith (RAAF).
Born in 1901 in Albany WA, Stan was the eldest of four children (sons) of William Reddin (b1874 in Albany, WA) and Alice Eliza Pollard (b1874 in Guildford, WA). William (a Boatman) and Alice married in 1900 in Albany WA where they lived at the Pilot Station and William worked as a Boatman. In the mid 1920s the family moved to Perth WA where William was a Labourer.
Stan started work in Albany as a Shipping Clerk, and was in Perth in 1927 when he married Josephine Mary Pages-Oliver (b1905 in Perth, WA). Stan and Josephine settled in Perth where Stan was a Shipping Clerk and Customs Agent with Michelides Ltd (Tobacco Growers and Cigarette Manufacturers/Exporters) and by 1963 Stan was a Manager. Stan died in 1965 and Josephine in 1968.
