Volunteer Defence Corps Tasmania
Lt. Edgar Hope Churcher was appointed Captain 24 Feb 1942 after being called up for Full Time Duty.
Edgar lived at 18 Stewart Street Devonport, his wife was Ivy.
Edgar was trained in bomb disposal and guerilla warfare early 1942.
March 1943 travelled to NSW to attended 2nd Australian Army school for Officers of the Garrison Battalion and VDC units Narellan NSW
Saturday 18 September 1943 Captain Churcher was on Flinders Island [Furneaux Group] training the local VDC as per Walter Boaz Briant diary, 'Captain put us through the drill we had map practice & leopard crawl & monkey run & etc.'
Monday 20 September 1943 'I also went to the hall where a parade was of VDC & Mr Churcher was instructing' Walter Briant diary.
Captain Churcher was attached the Northern Tas HQ and by December 1944 was unwell with 'Diabetes Mellitius'
