Private Joseph James Kelvin Collett (Service Nos WX16979/W29627) initially served with the ACMF from 6 May to 9 October 1941 with 16 Employment Northam - mustered as Cook. Private Collett then served with the AIF from 10 October 1941 to 5 February 1947 and was attached to 103 Australian Convalescent Depot (Staff) at Discharge.
Born in 1905 in Perth WA, Joe was second of nine children of Hugh Collett (1882 in Guernsey on the Channel Islands) and Esther Mary Veronica Hall Jackson (b1881 in Perth, WA). Hugh immigrated with his parents and siblings in 1884, arriving in Fremantle WA on board the Glen Goil. Hugh (a Librarian) and Esther married in 1903 in Perth where they settled and raised their family and Hugh worked as a Librarian, Clerk, Library Assistant and Labourer, and served in both WWI and WWII.
Joe worked as a Labourer in Kirrup via Collie and Perth and in 1935 at Wellington Mill in WA, married Bertha Eileen Binks (b1914 in Perth, WA). Joe and Bertha lived in Kirrup via Collie and in Perth, where Joe was a Labourer before serving in WWII. Following his Discharge, Joe and Bertha lived in Perth where Joe was a Cook before moving to Manjimup where Joe was Cook at the Warren District Hospital. Bertha also worked as a Cook in Nyamup before settling in Perth. Joe died in 1979 and Bertha in 1996.
