25 Sep 1916: Embarked AIF WW1, Private, 5551, 22nd Infantry Battalion, Embarked on HMAT 'A9' Shropshire from Melbourne on 25th September 1916, disembarking Plymouth, England 11th November 1916.
13 Dec 1916: Embarked AIF WW1, Private, 5551, 22nd Infantry Battalion, Proceeded to France from Folkestone, England on 13th December 1916.
8 Oct 1917: Wounded AIF WW1, Private, 5551, 22nd Infantry Battalion, Wounded in action, gunshot wound to left calf.
6 Jul 1918: Wounded AIF WW1, Private, 22nd Infantry Battalion, Wounded in action, gunshot wound to right leg and gas poisoning.
4 Oct 1918: Honoured Military Medal, "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the attack near BEAUREVOIR, East of PERONE, on 4.10.18. This man was in charge of a Lewis Gun, and successfully engaged the enemy, who had taken up a position in a building, causing them to withdraw. He used up all available ammunition in magazines, and having collected more ammunition from casualties took up a position in a shell hole, constantly harassing the enemy during the day. All other members of this man's team became casualties early in the attack, and his conduct in working his gun single-handed deserves the greatest praise."
