Don was the third of seven children of Arthur James Gliddon (b1881 in Bowden, South Australia) and Hannah Jane Maddock (nee Smith; b1873 in Perth, WA). Arthur (a Labourer) and Hannah married in 1911 in Perth WA. Arthur served in the AIF (Trooper; Service No:2028) and was serving in France when he was notified that Hannah had drowned in January 1917.
Don was a toddler when his mother died in 1917. He was working as a Transport Driver in Perth WA in 1940 when he married Daisy Marion Clayton (b1915 in Perth, WA). In August 1942 Don enlisted in the Australian Army and continued serving until 1980 (Sergeant; Service Nos:WX30789/WP5955/5131). Don and Daisy lived in Perth, WA where Don died in 1993 and Daisy in 2011.
