Major Dominic Smith (Service Nos:WX17134/57513) served in the Australian Army from 1941 to the 1980s. Captain Smith served with the Army Ordnance Corps in New Guinea in WWII, and as a Major during the Malaysian Emerrgency with General HQ Far East Land Force.

Born in 1918 in Kellerberrin WA, Nick was sixth of seven children of Stephen Joseph Smith (b1880 in Perth, WA) and Catherine Mary Madigan (b1883 in Melbourne, Victoria). Stephen worked with WAGR as a Messenger Boy and Cadet, and was a Clerk in 1904 when he and Catherine married in Perth. By 1910 the family was living in Tambellup via Merredin where Stephen was Station Master, and in 1915 when he enlisted in the AIF the family was living in Perth. Following his Discharge, Stephen and Catherine lived in Perth, Kellerberrin and Fremantle where Stephen worked as a Clerk, Travelling Salesman and Farmer.

Nick was working as a Clerk when he enlisted in the Army, and was a Captain with Army Ordnance Corps in 1942 when he married Winsome Gwennyth Bancroft (b1920 in Wyalkatchem, WA) - Winn was in the RAAF. Nick remained in the Army until retirement in the 1908s. He and Winn lived in Perth and Stanthorpe QLD (Wallangarra) and in Singapore (25 August 1959 to 8 October 1961) where Nick was a Major with General HQ during the Malaysian Emergency. Winn died in 2004 and Nick in 2011.
