Brian was the youngest of four children of Sydney Charles Frederick Lewis (b1893 in Brisbane, QLD) and Elizabeth (Lylia) Catherine Rose Healy (b1889 in Brisbane, QLD). Sydney - a Railways Employee - and Lylia - a Book Keeper - married in 1919 in Brisbane, QLD. They settled at Nundah, where Sydney was a Railways Employee, to raise their family.

Brian was eighteen (18) years of age when he enlisted in the RAAF in January 1944. He was a Leading Aircraftman (Service No:151151) attached to Amberley when he was Discharged in March 1948. Older brother James (Des) Desmond Llewis served as a Pilot Officer (Service No: 435290) and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross in 1945.

In 1948 Brian married Shirley Eileen Nunn (b1929 in Ipswich, QLD). Brian and Shirley first lived in Nundah before settling in Chelmer in Brisbane, where Brian worked as a Motor Engineer. In 1980 they relocated to Toorbul near Caboolture, QLD and Brian worked as a Clerk. Brian died in 2009 and Shirley in 2017.
