Death caused by Anaemia and Asphyxia and Oedema following the wounding. His brother Alfred Walton of the 32 Battalion was present at the funeral
His mother requested for the headstone inscription read 'In loving memory of my Dear Son Aud 10, 1918. While you Lie in Peaceful Sleep your Memory we Will always keep'

Died on this date - 10th August......Private Charles Walton was born at Port Adelaide, South Australia in 1889. He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) on 6th September, 1916 as a 27 year old, single, Whipmaker from Adelaide, South Australia.
Private Walton embarked from Adelaide on 6th November, 1916 with 7th Reinforcements of 50th Battalion & was posted to 13th Training Battalion at Codford, Wiltshire, England on 10th January, 1917. He was admitted to Hospital from 5th April, 1917 with Scabies & rejoined the training Battalion on 19th April, 1917.
Private Walton arrived in France on 10th May, 1917. He was sent to Hospital on 3rd January, 1918 with Blepharitis (inflammation of the eyelids)& rejoined 50th Battalion on 8th April, 1918.
Private Charles Walton was wounded in action on 25th April, 1918 & was invalided to England where he was admitted to Bath War Hospital, England on 30th April, 1918 with shell wounds to right forearm – severe. He was transferred to 1st Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, England on 19th July, 1918 having developed septic Tonsillitis with Streptococci & Vincents Angina.
Private Charles Walton died at 10.50 pm on 10th August, 1918 at No. 1 Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield Park, Harefield, Middlesex, England from Secondary Anaemia (post Diphtheritic) & Asphyxia (oedema glottides). He was buried in St. Mary the Virgin Churchyard, Harefield, Middlesex, England where 112 other WW1 Australian War Graves are located.
