Henry Taylor always known as Harry was born in Newcastle NSW on 30 April 1926 the youngest child of the family. He was educated at Waratah Primary School then Newcastle Boys High. At the age of 14 before finishing his 3rd year of High School he left school to make a contribution to the family income. for their survival. Harry worked as a tailor's assistant, a telegram boy with Post Master General, as a counter hand in the Post Office then on the beat as postman.
On 4 July 1944 he enlisted in the Royal Australian AirForce at the age of 18 and worked mostly in dispatch stores fueling aircraft.
We heard many stories over the years of his experience in the RAAF including numerous times how he was disappointed at not going overseas. However he always added that it was actually for his good as once it was planned for him to fly however at the last minute he was directed to remain in camp at Lennox Head. He stated the plane went down and those on board lost their lives.
On joining the RAAF he was based at Williamtown near Newcastleand was then transferred to LennoxHead NSW.
On discharge on 14August 1946 Henry decided to join the Ministry and commenced training at St John's Anglican College Morpeth in September 1946. His training was complete in December 1949 and he was ordained priest on St Thomas's Day 21 December 1949 at St Peter's Cathedral Armidale. He married Daphne Saxby on 12 April 1950.
Harry (Henry) served as Priest in the Armidale diocese at West Tamworth, Barradine, Emmaville, Boggabri, Barraba and Glen Innes. In August 1974 he transferred to the Brisbane diocese serving as priest at Wynnum and Roma. He was made Archdeacon of Moreton in 1983 then Archdeacon of the west in 1984. Harry focussed on becoming involved in each community and was very much loved by all with whom he came into contact
At each parish Harry was an active member of the RSL involved in caring for the welfare of members and conducting Dawn services and commemoration ceremonies on ANZAC Day. This continued after his retirement in 1991 to Kilcoy Qld.
Henry (Harry) Taylor died on 16 December 1999 following a short period of terminal illness. He was buried at Kilcoy Cemetery on 21 December 1999 which was the 50th anniversary of his ordination.
