Joseph Edward Brunton


Joseph Edward Brunton was born in Prospect in 1981 and his parent's names were Joseph and Mary. He also had two older brothers who also joined the army called Peter and William. Before he enlisted he was an orchardist. He lived at 'Ravenswood',Seven Hills with his parents. Joseph enlisted on November 1 in 1916 at the Sydney Showgrounds when he was at the age of 25. He also served with the 2nd Battalion on the Western Front. He was in the Australia army. Joseph embarked from Sydney on HMAT 'Benalla' A24 on 9 November 1916. By October 1 1917, his Battalion was holding the front trench lines near Chateaux Wood, Belgium, when they repulsed a German attack. He is on the Toongabbie District Roll of Honour at Toongabbie Public School.
