Sergeant Stanley Lewis Ashdown (Service No:45597) enlisted in the RAAF on 14 August 1941 as an Aircraftman I, mustering as a Clerk Stores. On 1 April 1942 he was promoted to Leading Aircraftman, 1 November 1942 to Corporal and on 1 December 1943 to Sergeant. Sergeant Ashdown served in the Northern Territory (Darwin and 54 Mile) from 30 September 1945 to 18 December 1945. Sergeant Ashdown was attached to HQ Western Area when he was Discharged on 16 May 1946.

The eldest of four children, Stan was born in 1916 in Perth WA to Hubert Stanley Ashdown (b1891 in London, England) and Florence Charlotte Thomas (b1894 in Albany, WA). Hubert was a Railway Clerk in Kent, England when he immigrated in 1912, arriving in Fremantle WA on board the Orama. Hubert (a Station Master) and Florence married in 1915 in Albany WA. Hubert served with the AIF in WWI (Service No:14612). Hubert worked for WAGR as a Clerk and Staion Master at  Katanning, Bunbury, Beerup, Wagin, York, Northampton, Northam, Merredin, Brusnwick Junction and Yarloop before settling in Perth by 1943. 

Stan worked as  a Shop Assistant in Kellerberrin and in 1938 was a Drapery Store Manager at Southern Cross. In 1941 in Perth WA Stan married Marie Frances White (b1920 in Perth, WA) and following his Discharge from the RAAF in 1946, he and Marie lived in Collie WA where Stan was Drapery and Footwear Manager for the Industrial Co-Operative Society. By 1949 Stan had moved his family to Carnamah WA where he was a Draper. Stan and Marie Divorced and in 1961 Stan remarried Ronda May Clarke (b1929 in Fremantle, WA) - Rhonda was a Typist in Perth. Stan and Ronda settled in Perth by the late 1960s, where Stan worked as a Salesman. Ronda died in 1986 and Stan in 2005.
