Aircraftwoman Ruth Kuhnell (Service No:105612) - McLaren when she enlisted in the WAAF on 6 August 1942 - mustered as a Trainee Wireless/Telegraph Operator and later as a Telegraphist. AC McLaren was posted to No 1 WAAF, No 3 Wirelss and Gunnery School (WAGS), W/T Station Melbourne and Signals School Point Cook. AC McLaren was at WAAF Station Maryborough in 1945 when she married, and was Discharged on 29 August 1945.

Ruth was born in 1917 in Sydney NSW, youngest of five children of Sydney Daniel McLaren (b1876 in Sydney, NSW) and Ada Mary McDonald (b1878 in Sydney, NSW). Sydney (an Estate Agent) and Ada married in 1909 in Sydney, NSW where they settled and raised their family. Sydney was Secretary of the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron and an Estate Agent.

Ruth was working in Sydney as a Stenographer when she enlisted in the WAAF in 1942. Stationed in Maryborough QLD in 1945, she married Gordon Raymond Kuhnell (b1916 in Melbourne, Victoria) in 1945 - Gordon was serving in the Army (Service No:NX39382). Ruth and Gordon lived in Canberra following Discharge - Gordon worked for the Department of Treasury as an Assistant Warehouseman, before moving to Murwillumbah, NSW in the mid 1950s where Gordon was a Banana Grower. Gordon died in 1994 and Ruth in 1999.
