Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

One of four brothers who served in WWII, Leading Aircraftman Charles Fredrick Turner (Service No:45190) enlisted in the RAAF at No 4 Recruiting Centre Perth as an Aircraftman I on 10 July 1941 - mustered as a Fitter/Driver Motor Transprt. Promoted to Leading Aircraftman on 19 December 1942, LAC Turner was attached to Air Force HQ at Discharge on 11 January 1946.

Charlie was born in Capel, Western Australia in 1915, third of seven children of Frederick Henry Turner (b1885 at Goodward Sawmill, Lockville, Western Australia) and Fanny Shortland (b1888 in Greta, New South Wales). Frederick (a Butcher) and Fanny (a Dressmaker) married in 1911 in Capel, where they settled and raised their family and Frederick was a Butcher and Farmer.

Charlie first worked as a Garage Assistant on leaving school, and was an Assistant Butcher in Capel in July 1941 when he enlisted in the RAAF. In August 1941 he married Ethel Lillian Tucker (b1920 in Bunbury, Western Australia), and following his Discharge in 1946, Charlie and Ethel settled at Ambergate in Busselton where they raised their family and Charlie was a Farmer. In the mid 1970s they moved to Gingin, where Charlie was a Farmer. Charlie died in 2004 and Ethel in 2010.
