Leading Aircraftman Norman Robert Coates (Service No:88968) served with the RAAF from 30 March 1944 to 8 March 1946. LAC Coates was attached to Crew Conversion Unit East Sale at Discharge.
Born in 1926 in Launceston Tasmania, Norman was the second of four children of George Robert Coates (b1892 at Kinara Junction, Tasmania) and Ella Edith Partridge (b1896 in Launceston, Tasmania). George, a Labourer when he enlisted in the AIF in WWI, was working as a Horse Driver in Launceston in 1921 when he and Ella married. The couple settled in Launceston where they raised their fmaily and George was a Postal Worker.
Following his Service with the RAAF, Norman was a Trainee in Launceston in 1947 when he married Eileen June Smith (b1925 in Launceston, Tasmania). Norman and Eileen settled in Launceston where Norman joined the Public Service and worked as a Clerk. Eileen died in 2000 and Norman in 2014.
