The Minmi Roll of Honour has 79 names inscribed of those who returned home from The Great War.
The 31st name inscribed is Temporary Corporal John Archibald Brown.
Served during The Great War, resting at Sandgate Cemetery.
On the 5th June 1980, Temporary Corporal John Archibald Brown, 35th Battalion (Reg No-1080), labourer from Back Creek, Minmi, New South Wales and Newcastle?, N.S.W., was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 86 years 7 months. PRESBYTERIAN-14NW. 45.
John had died on the 30th May 1980 at Newcastle, N.S.W., not the 3rd June.
Born at Joadja Creek, New South Wales on the 12th October 1893 to Alfred and Isabella Brown from Back Creek, Minmi, New South Wales and 16 Estell Street, Maryville, N.S.W.; husband of Euphemia Brown nee Muir, married 1927, Hamilton, N.S.W., died 28.1.1977, Newcastle, N.S.W., age?, sleeping with John at PRESBYTERIAN-14NW. 43, name not inscribed on headstone.
John enlisted on the 18th December 1915, age 22 years 2 months, at Newcastle, N.S.W.
Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A24 Benalla on the 1st May 1916.
Disembarked Plymouth, England 9.7.1916.
Proceeded O/Seas to France from Southampton, England 21.11.1916.
Granted leave to England from 12.1.1918 to 26.1.1918.
Appointed Lance Corporal 12.4.1918.
Invalided to England 24.4.1918.
Promoted Temporary Corporal 3.1.1919.
Commenced return to Australia 11.5.1919.
John arrived home on the 28th June 1919, being discharged on the 12th August 1919.
Mr. Brown’s name has also been inscribed on the Minmi St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church Roll of Honour.

I have placed poppies at John’s gravesite in remembrance of his service and sacrifice for God, King & Country.
