Son of Herbert J BUTLER, Celveland, Gingin, Western Australia
Frank was born in Perth, Western Australia, in 1925.
Before his war service, Frank worked in a bike shop, and as a farm hand and mechanic. In August 1943, just weeks after his 18th birthday, Frank enlisted in the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) as a trainee technician. He completed his initial training and his technical training at RAAF Base Pearce in Western Australia. In January 1944, Frank was posted to No. 85 (Fighter) Squadron, based in Perth. He was then transferred to No. 4 Repair and Salvage Unit just south of Darwin before being posted to Morotai with 83 Operational Base Unit. Frank was in Morotai when the war ended, and remained there until November 1945, when he was returned to Western Australia.
Frank was discharged from the RAAF in February 1946. He then worked for the Shire of Gingin as a general hand and grader operator. He also worked at a power station in Gingin before electricity was connected to the town.
In 1949, Frank married Yvonne, and they have 3 children and a large extended family.
In his spare time, Frank enjoyed playing golf and bowls, and travelling. He was a very good handyman and fixed everything around his home. These days, Frank leads a quiet life.
