Aircraftwoman Shirley Alma Helena Lott (Service No:174429) served in the RAAF - mustered Fabric Worker's Assistant - from 21 August 1944 to 27 March 1946. ACWI Lott served with No 1 Flying Boat Repair Depot (FBRD) Lake Boga Vic and was attached to General Reconnaissance School at Discharge.
Shirley was born in South Yarra, Victoria in 1921, third of six children of Walter John Lott (b1878 in Branxholme, Victoria) and Selena Ethel May Williams (b1888 in Castlemaine, Victoria), Walter was a Blacksmith in 1914 when he and Selena married in Melbourne, where they settled and raised their family and Walter worked as a Blacksmith and Gas Maker.
Shirley started work as a Salesgirl in a Sandwich and Cake Shop and was a Timekeeper/Hand Worker for Cecil Manufacturing Coy in 1942 when she enlisted in the RAAF. Following her Discharge, Shirley was in Melbourne in 1947 when she married Lawrence (Laurie) George Yates (b1922 in Melbourne, Victoria) - Laurie served in the AIF in WWII (Sapper; Service No:VX118427). Shirley and Laurie settled in Melbourne, where they raised their family and Laurie worked as a Storeman. Laurie died in 1990 and Shirley in 1998.
