Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Ned was the youngest of ten children of John Boyce (b1862 in Nottinghamshire, England) and Mary Ann Spencer (b1867 in Nottinghamshire, England). John (a Farm Labourer) and Mary (a Mill Hand) married in Nottinhamshire in 1889 and sailed for QLD Australia in April 1890 on board the SS Dacca. The ship was wrecked on the Daedalus Reef - all on board were rescued - and John and Mary arrived in Brisbane, QLD in July 1890 on board the Taroba. They settled in Ipswich, QLD and raised their family - John worked as a Labourer, and in 1902 the family relocated to Nambour, QLD.

Ned had worked as a Labourer in Murgon and Manumbar QLD before moving to Coff's Harbour NSW where he worked as a Lathe Operator. In June 1941 Ned enlisted in the RAAF (Service No:37068), serving with the Services Police as an Aircraftman 1, Leading Aircraftman, Corporal and Sergeant. Ned was Discharged in April 1946 and returned to Coffs Harbour, NSW. Two of Ned's brothers also served in WWII.

Ned moved to New Zealand (brother Percy Samuel had moved to New Zealand and served in the New Zealand Army in WWII), where he settled in Auckland and was a Waterside Worker. Ned died in 1980.
