Harry St George HOLMES (’40) was born at Avon private hospital, Grandview Grove, East Hawthorn on 12 July 1922. He attended Scotch from 1938 to 1939 as a member of Littlejohn House and as a boarder in School House. Harry served in the RAAF from 1941 to 1945, reaching the rank of flying officer. He saw active service in England, France and Belgium in RAF No. 19 Squadron as a fighter pilot in Mustang Mk III fighter bombers. He studied wool classing at Sydney Technical College (1946-47) and farmed on Holmewood, Humula, New South Wales from December 1946 until 1984. On 5 October 1949 Harry married Gwenda Marcelle Fogg at St Stephen’s Church, Willoughby, New South Wales. Retiring in 1984, Harry moved to Coffs Harbour. For 36 years until 2010 Harry served as a board member of Legacy. He became a pacifist. Among his many relatives at Scotch were his cousins James Edward St George Sproule (born 5 December 1908, SC 1922-26, died 25 January 1994), John St George Sproule (born 12 May 1920, SC 1927-38, died 10 January 2000), John Summons (born 2 July 1916, SC 1930-33, died 9 February 1983), Walter Irvine Summons (born 6 April 1920, SC 1934-37, died 27 December 1990), Robin St George Summons (born 29 March 1923, SC 1938-40, died 5 June 1990) and Dr John Summons (SC 1944-47), and his uncle James St George Sproule (born 31 October 1893, SC 1906-13, died 26 June 1948). Harry died of cancer on 22 November 2012 at Coffs Harbour Nursing Centre, Coffs Harbour, New South Wales.
