Aircraftwoman Thelma Rowena Wensley (Service No:104639) enlisted in the RAAF on 14 October 1942 at No 1 Recruiting Centre Melbourne - mustered as Trainee Telegraphist. Aircraftwoman Wensley served with 12 Signals and at NEA HQ Telecommunications Unit, and was attached to Townsville Wireless/Telegraphic Station at Discharge on 20 August 1945. Her two brothers - Eric and Terrence - also served in WWII.
Thelma was born in Hamilton, Victoria in 1923, second of four children of Albert William Wensley (1898 in Balmoral, Victoria) and Evangeline Johnson (b1901 in Balmoral, Victoria). Albert served in WWI (Private; Service No:6667) and was a Labourer in Strathkellar via Hamilton in 1920 when he and Evangeline married at Telangatuk. Later that year Albert was granted land and he and Evangeline settled at Henley Park via Hamilton where they raised their family and Albert was a Farmer.
Thelma was working in Hamilton as a Telephonist when she enlsited in the RAAF. Following her Discharge, she married Gordon Joseph Carroll (b1920 in Melbourne, Victoria) - Gordon served in the Army in WWII (Service No:VX116176) in 1949. Thelma and Gordon settled in Melbourne, where Gordon was a Clerk. Following Gordon's death in 1954, Thelma later remarried to Les Howard. Thelma died in Ballarat in 2010.
