Biography contributed

Son of James Stuart SCOTT, Mirboo North, Victoria.

Trevor is a veteran of the Second World War.

In January 1944, Trevor enlisted in the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF). He began trades training at No. 4 School of Technical Training in Adelaide before receiving a new role as a guard in May. In July 1944, Trevor was posted to the RAAF base at Laverton as a guard. In early 1945, Trevor was selected for service in the Pacific. He arrived on the island of Bougainville in March and was posted to No. 10 Communication Unit, which shortly afterwards was retitled as No. 10 Local Air Supply Unit. The unit’s Anson and Beaufort aircraft were used for mail deliveries, dropping supplies, and anti-malarial spraying. Trevor performed guard duties and took part in patrols around the airbase at Torokina.
Trevor returned to Australia in February 1946 and was discharged from the RAAF on 27 May of that year. He says the best thing about serving was ‘survival and mateship’. Trevor advises younger service personnel to ‘be true to yourself and the cause you signed up for’.

After the war, Trevor worked for a general merchant, then was a manager for Peters Ice Cream for 28 years. He married Mona in 1949 and they raised 3 children together. Sadly, Mona passed away in 2009.

When Trevor was younger, he liked swimming and playing AFL, cricket and golf. He also formed new friendships through his 40-year association with the Inverloch RSL Sub-Branch. Trevor now enjoys gardening, doing crosswords and reading the newspaper from front to back.

Trevor says his longevity is due in part to his DVA eligibility. His parents lived until their late 80s and a sister and brother lived until 98 and 94 respectively. Trevor’s younger sister is 91 years of age.
