Biography
After completing his initial pilot training in Australia he was sent to England and continued to train and copilot on Wellingtons, Avro Manchesters and joined
467 Squadron Lancasters on 25th November 1943. In 467 Squadron he flew Lancesters on more than 30 missions over Europe with a number of these missions over Berlin. He was part of the disastrous
raid on Nuremburg on 30 March 1944 in which Bomber Command lost 96 of it’s aircraft in one night. Nine of his sorties were in R5868 S Sugar which flew
137 operational sorties and which now resides in the Royal Aircraft Museum. After his tour of duty in England in 1945 he was sent to America to fly Douglas Dakota C47’s
to Sydney and then from Sydney to Hong Kong. He was demobilised from the RAAF in 1946 and joined QANTAS Airways and flew as a commercial pilot until he retired in 1979.
