Bansemer, Albert Edward, Private 1517. (27 Aug 1898 – 3 Jun 1968)
One of the first to “answer the call” in November 1914, he was only 16 years old although he claimed to be 21 on his attestation papers. He received a gun shot wound to the left hand in April 1915 rendering it almost useless, and was sent back to Australia 2 months later where he was discharged. He later re-enlisted in October 1916 in the Home Defence under the name of Albert Edward Buxton but still gave his next of kin as his mother Louise Bansemer of Cockatoo Valley and his age as 23. His hand had improved to the point where it was only a minor disability. He re-enlisted for overseas duty and served until July 1919.
