The Australian Red Cross Wounded and Missing File attached to this memorial is linked to 3347 Frederick James. In what appears to be a case of mistaken identity, 1687 Francis Henry James had served in the 56th Infantry Battalion and would have been known to the men, but has been incorrectly identified during after battle recollections.
The information given in this document seems to be accurate and consistent with the death of 1687 Francis Henry James and not that of 3347 Frederick James who's body was later found with the 250 soldiers in Pheasant Wood.
