Youngest of three siblings (Arthur and Edward) who served in WWII, Aircraftwoman Iris May Askew (Service No:102152) served in the WAAAF (Tailoress) from 5 April 1944, and was attached to Maryborough Station at Discharge on 17 April 1945.

Iris was born in Bundaberg, QLD in 1926, youngest of three children of Henry (Harry) Charles Askew (b1883 in Dalby, QLD) and Harriett May Budd (b1898 in Brisbane, QLD). Harry worked in Mackay and Brisbane as a Labourer and Carter, and was a Collector/Dealer in 1922 when he and Harriett married in Brisbane. Harry settled in Brisbane, where he worked as a Collector/Dealer, Drayman and Labourer until his death in 1944. Harriet had settled in Bundaberg in the late 1920s with the two younger children and later remarried.

Iris worked in Bundaberg as a Dressmaker before enlisting in the WAAAF in 1944, and was in Bundaberg in 1945 when she married Eric Walk (b1918 in Bundaberg, QLD) - Eric served in the Army in WWII (Sapper; Service No:Q76853). Iris and Eric settled in the Bundaberg region (Elliott and Booyan at Moorlands via Bundaberg), where they raised their family and Eric was a Farmer. Eric died in 2014 and Iris in 2015.
