Milton George Bean
Milton joined up 23 July 1943 just after his 18th birthday. He joined at the recruiting centre in Woolloomooloo having travelled from Grenfell NSW. He was a Leading Aircraftsman. He was discharged 20 July 1946. He served in Papua New Guinea as part of the 80 Squadron. Details are unclear but it seems he was briefly in Borneo. In June 1945 Milton wrote letters applying for a Dental Science degree in Melbourne. It seems he was accepted but ended up working in Grenfell and becoming a Stock and Station agent. He married a local, Joy Margaret Stein, October 5 1950. They had 3 daughters and remained in Grenfell. Both were active and well known in the community. He never missed the local ANZAC Day march till towards the end. They were both in a serious accident the end of 2011 and after a long hospitalisation went into care in Grenfell. Milton died peacefully with his wife by his side on August 22, 2015. He is fondly remembered.
