Military Medal

'Immediately after the attack on October 4th, Sapper RIDGWAY went forward with a working party to dig a communication trench over the ridge just south of Broodseinde. After assisting to place the party on the work, Sapper RIDGWAY volunteered to carry a severely wounded N.C.O. to the dressing station at Zonnebeke brick kiln, and succeeded in passing an extremely heavy barrage with his burden. Sapper RIDGWAY then returned through the barrage and was of the greatest assistance to his officer in organising the completion of the trench. Sapper RIDGWAY is an extremely valuable soldier and has frequently handled large working parties under trying conditions and obtained excellent results. His conduct has been most exemplary throughout his fifteen months service in the field.'
