Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Born in 1924 in Gympie QLD, Allan was the youngest of five children of William Henry Tweed (b1888 in Eidsvold, QLD) and Rose Florence Birchley (b1890 in Eidsvold, QLD). William (a Labourer) and Rose married in 1910 in Eidsvold, QLD before settling in Mt Perry, QLD where William was a Labourer. In the early 1920s the family moved to Gympie where William was a Selector before settling at Lagoon Pocket in Kilkivan nr Gympie QLD where he was a Farmer and Labourer.

Allan was a Farm Labourer at Lagoon Pocket in 1942 when he enlisted in the RAAF (Aircraftman; Service No:79996). His referee (G H Watson J.P), described Allan as a 'clean living honest young citizen of industrious habits' (National Archives 1942). Allan was mustered as a Motor Cyclist and an Armourer's Assistant, and served with 20 Squadron in Cairns in 1943, 5 Squadron in Mareebra in 1944 and 107 Squadron in 1945 at St George's Basin, and was in Bougainville in 1944. He was promoted to Leading Aircraftman in August 1943 and was Discharged in March 1946.

Returning to Lagoon Pocket following his Discharge, Allan worked as a Labourer and in 1953 married Lois Mary Crawford (b1929 in Melbourne, Victoria). The couple settled in Margate, Brisbane QLD where Allan worked as a Storeman before moving to Reservoir in Melbourne Victoria in the early 1960s. Allan worked as a Dairyhand until retirement. Lois died in 2002 and Allan in 2013.
