Norman was born in 1908, the son of John Arthur Icely and Margaret Coleman.
He married Myrtle Emily Hargreaves in 1926. They had two daughters. Myrtle died in 1933.
Norman listed his de facto Honora Mary Coucille as a dependent on his Service Records. Honora died in 1949.
Norman then married Mary Valda Rawson in 1951. He and Mary had three sons.
