Biography contributed by Faithe Jones

Mr. ROBERT KELVIN
Deep regret was expressed when it became known that our old townsman, Mr, Robert Melvin, had passed away suddenly at his home on Monday morning March 24. The late Mr. Melvin, who was 58 years of age, had not enjoyed good health for some time past, and although this was well known to his many friends, they were hardly prepared to hear of such a sudden end.
He was born at Newcastle on Tyne (England), and came out to Australia at the age of 17. For quite a number of years he engaged in farming in the 'Belka district, and upon the  outbreak of war in 1914 he enlisted in the A.I.F. and fought in various theatres of conflict. On being discharged  from the forces the returned to farming life until 1936. He then became secretary of the Merredin Club (Inc.) and gave good service in that capacity until he was compelled to relinquish the position owing to indifferent health. He had quite a  menial disposition and always exercised a tolerant and reasonable attitude towards his fellow men. This was amply demonstrated by the representative gathering at the graveside  of many local activities.
He was a member of the local sub-branch of the R.S.L., Merredin Lodge No. 98. W.A.C., Merredin Buffalo Lodge and a keen supporter of the Towns Foot ball Club, Merredin  Volunteer Fire Brigade and several other worthy institutions. He leaves a widow and family to whom the sympathy of a large number of friends is extended.

THE FUNERAL
The funeral took place on Tuesday, when the large attendance indicated the respect in which the whole family is held. At 3 o'clock a service was held in All Saints' Church, conducted by the Rector, the Rev D. R. Bazely, before proceeding to the Merredin Cemetery, where the remains were interred in the Anglican section.
