Flight Sergeant Leslie William Viney Stuchbury (Service No:441660) initially served in the ACMF (Private; Service No:W82192) with 5th Battalion Volunteer Defence Corps (VDC) from 6 July 1942 to 26 April 1943, before enlisting in the RAAF on 20 November 1943 at No 4 Recruiting Centre Perth as an Aircraftman II - mustered as Trainee Air Crew, re mustered as Navigator. Promoted to Sergeant in December 1944, he served in the Northenr Territory -  with 24 Squadron at Fenton and 12 Squadron in Darwin - participating in operational flights outside the mainland from 24 February 1945 to 8 October 1945. Flight Sergeant Stuchbury was attached to RAAF HQ (Advanced HQ) at Discharge on 6 November 1945. Older brother - Pilot Officer Herbert Ronald Houghton Stuchbury (Service No:415488) - was KiA in Germany, and his father - Captain Herbert Henry Stuchbury served in WWI and WWII.

Les was born in Collie, Western Australia in 1924, third of five children of Herbert (Bert) Henry Houghton Stuchbury (b1895 at Broken Hill, New South Wales) and his first wife Ivy Laurel Gibson (b1895 in Adelaide, South Australia). Bert and Ivy married in 1915 at Midland Junction - Bert served in the AIF in WWI (Sergeant; Service No:2103) - and following his Discharge, he and Ivy settled in Collie where they raised their family and Bert was a Miner and Weighman/Surface Foreman. Bert was appointed Lieutenant with the Australian Military Cadet Corps in 1920, and served in the ACMF in WWII.

Les was working as a Junior Clerk with the Western Australian Government Railways (WAGR) when he enlisted in the ACMF in 1942, and following his Discharge from the RAAF in 1945, returned to Bunbury. In 1949 in Bunbury Les married Ethel (Joanie) Joan Scott (b1925 in Bunbury, Western Australia). Les and Joanie settled in Bunbury, where they raised their family and Les worked as a Clerk (WAGR) until his death in 1976. Joanie died in 2015.
