Son of William Alexander Veitch and Martha Veitch nee Shields of Lower Templestowe, Victoria.

Previously had worked as a carpenter

Commenced return to Australia on 2 March 1919 aboard HT Derbyshire disembarking on 22 April 1919.

During 1925c John married Dorothy Muriel Thomas in Victoria
