Arthur was the youngest of four children of Joseph (Joe Snr) Gisbourne Greene (b1888 in Melbourne, Victoria) and Nellie Richards (b1888 in Lancashire, England). Nellie arrived in Brisbane, QLD with her family in 1899 on board the Duke of Argyll. Joe - a Miner in Howard, QLD - married in Ipswich, QLD in 1910. They settled in the Byrnes Estate in Bundamba where they raised their family. Joe worked as a Miner until his death in 1947.
Arthur was a Miner in Bundamba, Ipswich when he enlisted in the RAAF in August 1942. He was a Leading Aircraftman (Service No:78212) attached to heavy Bomber Training Replacement Unit when he was Discharged in May 1945. Brother Joe (Private; Service No:Q148670) also served in WWII.
Arthur returned to Ipswich, QLD where he worked as a Miner before relocating to Newcastle in NSW. He worked as a Storeman and Packer, Cellarman and Barman.
