Joshua Clarence Hatch was born on the 6 August, 1897 in Nuriootpa, South Australia and was a shop assistant in his hometown. Joshua's Father died when he was young just at the age of 12 with his mother dying 20 years later in 1929 after he came back from the war. Joshua also had a brother Percival Clifford Hatch.

He enlisted for the army in Melbourne when he was 21 on the 17th of September 1918. he had no previous military experience before WW1 and the service number assigned to him was 68810 and he was assigned to the 1st to 17th (VIC) reinforcements.

Joshua embarked on the 22 October 1918 just 20 days before the end of the war, going to the middle east on the HMAT Boonah A36. He came back to Australia with no recorded injuries or illnesses. Not much of his life after the war is known but Joshua did get married to Sarah Elizabeth Camphuynder. Together they had six children. Joshua lived to the age of 55 and died of reasons currently unknown.
