Flying Officer Harold Neal Jensen
Harold enlisted in the Royal Australian Air Force on the 25th April, 1942 and did his basic training in Narrandera, NSW flying the De Havilland 82 Tiger Moth.
He did further training in Bundaberg, QLD flying the Avro Anson and also trained at Sandgate, QLD. He was awarded Flight Sergeant and presented with Pilot Wings (Flying Badge) in March, 1943.
Harold embarked from Sydney NSW on the 25th May, 1943 to postings in England. He disembarked on the 7th July, 1943 and did service at Kidlington (Oxfordshire) England where he flew the Airspeed Oxford. Harold's unit was also based at Cranfield Airbase where he flew his beloved Mosquito. It was here that he flew with Richard (Dick) Passey (423481) as his navigator. They were in the 51 O.T.U together and maintained this friendship after the war. Dad also based with the 62 O.T.U.
Harold was officially discharged from the R.A.A.F on the 31st January, 1946 with the rank of Flying Officer and over 840 hours of flying, including training and combat. He sailed home on the M.V. Stirling Castle leaving from the Liverpool. (Canada Dock) sailing past Gibraltar, through the Suez Canal, through the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean to Freemantle, WA. From there they sailed home to Sydney.
Harold's ashes are interred in the RSL Memorial Wall, Hervey Bay, QLD alongside his wife June.
