Died on this date - 7th June...... Gnr Alec Gustavus Sim was born at Cashel, near Cosgrove, Victoria in 1896. He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) on 21st June, 1916 as a 20 year old Farmer (His father listed him as Bank Official in information provided for the Roll of Honour) from Colac, Victoria & was posted as Driver with Field Artillery Brigade Reinforcements.
Driver Sim arrived in England on 29th January, 1917 for further training & proceeded to France on 4th October, 1917. He joined 7th Battery, 3rd Field Artillery Brigade at the Front on 11th October, 1917.
Driver Alec Sim reverted to the rank of Gunner on 13th January, 1918 at his own request.
Gunner Sim was wounded in action - Gas poisoning on 23rd May, 1918. He was invalided to England & admitted to Military Hospital, Dover, Kent, England on 3rd June, 1918 – seriously ill with gas poisoning.
Gunner Alec Gustavus Sim died at 7.40 pm on 7th June, 1918 from Wounds – Gas Poisoning as a result of enemy action. The Hospital Report states “..died on 7th June from Heart Failure due to Acute Bronchitis.” He was buried in St. James Churchyard Cemetery, Dover, Kent, England where 7 other WW1 Australian Soldiers are buried.
