Charles Joseph GRIFFIN
Charles was born on December 12, 1890 the son of Hugh and Mary Griffin of Coutts Crossing, near Grafton NSW. He married Evelyn Wood, at Copmanhurst, near Grafton, on March 26, 1913. Evelyn was the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wood, of Smith's Creek. At the time of his enlistment in 1916, Charles was a school teacher at Tullymorgan NSW. He embarked at Sydney on H.M.A.T. A64 “Demosthenes” on December 23, 1916 with the 49th Battalion, 8th Reinforcements. He was wounded during the Ypres Bombardment in July 1917.
Two of Charles Griffin’s brothers also enlisted for service during WWI. They were William and Andrew. Andrew was killed in action at Mouquet Farm, Pozieres, France, in August 1916.
Charles Griffin died on September 7, 1970 late of Railway Parade, Burwood NSW.
