On the 23rd November 1964, Private William Hamilton Auld, 35th Battalion (Reg No-1058), wheeler from Main Street, Minmi, New South Wales and West Wallsend, N.S.W., died at Burwood, N.S.W., age 68 years 7 months, and ashes possibly scattered at Rookwood Memorial Gardens and Crematorium, N.S.W.

Born at Greta, New South Wales on the 4th April 1896 to William Hamilton, died 9.6.1944, West Wallsend, N.S.W., age 83, buried at West Wallsend General Cemetery, N.S.W., Old Sec 1, Row W, Plot 43, from Greta, N.S.W. and Main Street, Minmi, N.S.W. and Wilson Street, West Wallsend, N.S.W., and Jane Auld nee MacCleery, died 1.6.1930, Wallsend Hospital, N.S.W., age 76, mother of 3 sons, 2 daughters, sleeping at West Wallsend General Cemetery, N.S.W., Old Sec 1, Row W, Plot 42, from Greta, N.S.W. and Main Street, Minmi, N.S.W. and Wilson Street, West Wallsend, N.S.W.; husband of Lillian Mary Auld nee Tuffrey, married 1920, Wallsend, N.S.W., died 23.2.1984, Newcastle, N.S.W., age 81, sleeping at Sandgate Cemetery, N.S.W., CATHOLIC 1-14. 23.

William enlisted on the 31st December 1915, age 19 years 8 months, at Newcastle, N.S.W.

Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A24 Benalla on the 1st May 1916.

Disembarked Plymouth, England 9.7.1916.

Proceeded O/Seas to France from Southampton, England 21.11.1916.

Admitted to hospital 31.12.1916 (mumps).

Wounded in action - 15.3.1917 (GSW left buttock & right heel or ankle).

Commenced return to Australia 30.1.1918.

William arrived home on the 21st March 1918, being discharged medically unfit on the 19th April 1918.

Mr. Auld’s name has also been inscribed on the Minmi St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church Roll of Honour.
