Biography contributed

Ivy Derry was born in Sydney on the 22nd of December 1913 and enrolled in the WRANS on the 13th of May 1942. Prior to her enlistment she worked as a stenographer and lived with her parents William and Catherine in Rockdale Sydney.

On joining the WRANS Ivy was posted to HMAS Lonsdale and employed at the Monterey Signals Unit where she would remain for the duration of the war. She was promoted to Leading Writer in February 1944 and to Petty Officer Writer in March 1945. She discharged from the WRANS in March 1946.

Post war Ivy resumed living with her parents and being employed as a typist, before marrying Percival Craddock in New Zealand in 1950. It was Craddock’s second marriage, his first having ended in divorce in 1948. Ivy and Percival’s marriage would also not survive with Ivy eventually returning to Rockdale and divorcing Craddock in 1977.

Ivy Craddock passed away in St Georges’ Hospital Kogarah NSW on the 21st of August 2003, she was cremated at Woronora Memorial Park and her ashes interred in the grave of her parents William and Cetherine in the Anglican Monumental, Section 2, Position 0260 at Woronora.
