Born in Perth WA, Bob was the eldest of six children of Lewis Henry Ballard (b1882 in Kiata, Victoria) and Annie (Dot) Irene Elsie Williams (b1887 in Boggabri, NSW). Lewis (a Labourer) and Dot married in 1904 in Perth WA where they settled and raised their family. Lewis died in 1936.
Bob was a House Painter when he enlisted in the Navy Reserves on 22 October 1934. He served as an Ordinary Seaman and was Discharged on 22 October 1937. In October 1940 Bob re-enlisted (Ordinary Seaman; Service No:F1964) and was Discharged in August 1943.
Bob settled back in Perth WA where he was working as a House Painter in 1947 when he married Elsie May Griffin (nee Hoddy; b1921 in Fremantle WA). Bob and Elsie settled in Perth WA where Bob worked as a House Painter. Elsie died in January 2003 and Bob in September 2003.
