One of three brothers (Reg and Douglas) who served in the Army and the Navy in WWII, Leading Seaman Trevor Clyde Collins (Service Nos:V167342/VX89598/M/P420) initially served in the Army (24 June 1942 - 7 December 1942) as a Trooper and Private with Armoured Corps Training Regiment. Leading Seaman Collins enlisted in the Navy as a Cadet on 14 December 1942 (HMAS Lonsdale) and was a Mate attached to Westwind at Discharge on 9 March 1944.
Trevor was born in Melbourne, Victoria in 1919, eldest of five children of Frederick (Fred) Thomas Albert Collins (b1892 in Williamstown, Victoria) and Margery (Millie) Gray (nee Rowe; b1892 in Bairnsdale, Victoria). Millie was a Divorcee with a young son and Fred was a Motor Mechanic in 1918 when they married in Bairnsdale. Fred and Millie lived in Melbourne, Bairnsdale, Lakes Entrance, Geelong, Queenscliff and Barwon Heads, where they raised their family and Fred was a Motor Mechanic. In the late 1950s Fred and Millie retired to Southport, QLD.
Trevor worked as a Fisherman, and in 1938 in Geelong married his first wife Frances Elizabeth Alice Clissold (b1920 at Yarra Junction Victoria) - Frances was a Machinist. Trevor and Frances settled in Geelong, and Trevor was a Fisherman at Lorne in 1942 when he enlisted in the Army. Following his Discharge from the Navy, Trevor worked as a Fisherman in Cairns and Townsville, and in the early 1950s he and Frances were living at Upper Thompson via Noojee in Victoria, where Trevor was a Contractor. Following a divorce in the early 1950s, Trevor was working as a Fisherman at Lakes Entrance in Gippsland when he remarried to Lorna (b1928 on Phillip Island, Victoria) - Lorna was a Saleswoman). By 1960 Trevor and Lorna had settled on Phillip Island, where they raised their family and Trevor was a Fisherman. Trevor died (Monash Gardens Nursing Home) in 2003.
