Gwen was the eldest of five children of Alfred Thomas Gorringe (b1900 in Sussex, England) and Ethel May Dyson (b1903 in Bibra Lake, Fremantle, WA). Alfred (a Baker) and Ethel married in 1924 in Fremantle WA. Alfred had arrived in Fremantle WA with his family in 1912 on board the Armadale. Alfred and Ethel lived in Fremantle and Perth where Alfred worked as a Baker - he served in the RAAF (Leading Aircraftman; Service No:81358) in WWII.
Gwen was working in Perth WA as a Pantry Maid in January 1943 when she enlisted (Private; Service No:WF93964) and served with Army Canteen Services (AACS). Gwen was attached to 10 AACS Club when she was Discharged in June 1946.
In November 1946 Gwen married Albert Henry Haysey (b1915 in Melbourne, Victoria) - Albert had also served in the ACMF with Canteen Services (Corporal; Service No:V1474). The couple settled in Perth, WA where Albert worked as a Storeman and Packer. Gwen died in 1989 and Albert in 1998.
