Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Youngest of three brothers who served in WWI, Private Roy Stirling Scott (Service No:52172) enlisted in the AIF on 25 August 1917, and was attached to 1st Reinforcements WA on 8 May 1918 when he embarked with his Unit from Albany WA for Suez on board SS Port Darwin. Hospitalised in Italy in July 1918, Private Scott continued to Southampton, serving in France with 5 Training Battalion and 28th Infantry Battalion. Private Scott embarked from England on 18 July 1919 on board HT Takada, and was attached to 6th Depot Unit of Supply at Discharge on 13 September 1919. Both older brothers (Douglas and Percy) died in France in 1916.

Roy was born at Minninup via Stratham, Western Australia in 1897, eighth of nine children of William Proctor Scott (b1856 at Eelup via Bunbury, Western Australia) and his first wife Lavinia Susannah Higgins (b1856 at Springfield via Capel, Western Australia). William and Lavinia married in 1881 in Picton, and settled in Minninup, where they raised their family and William was a Farmer. Following Lavinia's death in 1916, William remarried.

Roy worked as a Farmer in Minninup before enlisting in the AIF, returning following his Discharge. In 1930 in Bunbury, Roy married Gertude Archibald (b1913 in Quebec, Canada) - Gertude immigrated in 1921, arriving in Fremantle on board the Orsova. Roy and Gertrude lived in Nanga Brook, where Roy was a Timber Worker, before settling in Perth in the late 1940s, where they raised their family and Roy was a Plumber. Roy died in 1967 and Gertrude in 1994.
