Brother of Minnien Bawden, Henry Arthur Bawden, Thomas Rickard Bawden MM who returned to Australia on 10 December 1918 having served with the 11th Field Ambulance, Margaret Ellen Bawden, Joseph Lee Bawden and Clarence Maxwell Bawden

On 22 January 1920 William married Gertrude Lena Mugge in the Methodist Church, Blyth, SA
